Who we are

We help people and organisations to make a difference to the communities and places they love. Together, we're investing over £170m each year into people, community groups and grassroots charities.

Community foundations are so much more than local grant makers. They have deep knowledge of the challenges and opportunities in their area, working in partnership with others to transform lives.

Our story

Community foundations have been making a difference in the world for over 100 years. The first UK community foundation was founded in 1975 in Swindon, England, the first of its kind in Europe.

Today, we are an integral part of the global community foundation movement, working alongside sister organisations around the world.  Since 1975, community foundations in the UK have distributed over £1.6 billion to grassroots projects and initiatives throughout the nation.

What we stand for

UKCF is committed to building a just and fair future for society.

Environmental justice, social equity, diversity and inclusion should be woven into every aspect of grant making and community investment.  Learn about our key initiatives we're involved in.

Working towards a better future

We think globally and act locally, meaning social justice and climate justice is at the core of everything we do.

Our aim is for all communities to have the resources they need to empower good health and wellbeing, fairness and equality, climate action, community cohesion and development from the roots up.

Working at UKCF

Our team collaborates with accredited community foundations around the UK, amplifying their work and providing opportunities for relationship building, learning and development.

We manage national programmes that benefit UK communities and share new insights with national policy makers to drive lasting change for communities.
