AI for Good

Exploring how AI can work for and with UK communities

AI for Good

UK Community Foundations (UKCF) is delighted to be partnering with The National Lottery Community Fund and the Centre for the Acceleration of Social Technology (CAST) on a new two-year, £3.1 million initiative, exploring how AI can work for and with communities across the UK.  Read the press release.

A programme with two strands

Community Powered AI

Support for a small number of pilots bringing community organisations and technologists together to design AI tools.  These will be grounded in local needs and community values.

Pulse Network

50 grants to community organisations and specialist AI and data ethics organisations.  This will build a UK-wide early-warning network that captures how AI is showing up in communities – the opportunities, the harms and the quieter shifts that would otherwise go unnoticed.

About our partners

CAST is a UK charity that helps charities and social impact organisations make the most of digital and AI.  Through a range of free-to-access support resources, peer learning and advocacy, CAST supports the sector to use technology in ways that are effective, equitable and mission-driven.  CAST's work focuses on building confidence, strengthening resilience and ensuring charities can shape – and not just respond to – the technologies that affect us all.

The National Lottery Community Fund funds community projects that help people connect, grow and build a better future.

The National Lottery Community Fund is engaged not only as funder but as active partner in shaping the programme.  CAST brings deep expertise in AI, data ethics and the tech-for-good sector.  UKCF brings together independent and accredited community foundations – expert grant makers – that have long-standing experience in convening place-based intelligence.

What happens next

The programme is currently in set-up phase, with delivery expected to begin in late 2026.

More information on the participating community foundations, the pilots and how to get involved will be shared in the coming months.
