Advice and support

Whether you're looking for support for your charity or you'd like to start your giving journey, here is some useful information and guidance.

How are charities funded in the UK?

Funding can look different for each charitable organisation.

Some charities are funded by central or local government, while others depend on donations and/or grants from other charitable organisations, such as community foundations.

In the case of receiving funding from community foundations, charities and voluntary organisations are able to apply for grants in a number of ways.  Grants enable charities to carry out vital work in their community, providing help and support for those who need it.

Community foundations know that it can be a lot harder for grassroots organisations and smaller charities to get the flexible funding they need to resource their time, capacity and ambitions for local causes, which is why they often provide smaller grants that are easier to apply for than larger, national funding options.
