Rehabilitation for elderly patients
Devon Community Foundation awarded £600 to a small group to run rehab classes for elderly people who have suffered a stroke or cardiac arrest.
The classes also provide an opportunity for patients to get out of the house, socialise, and meet other people who are in a similar situation. They enjoy the classes and share experiences together.
More crucially, the centre aims to prevent further episodes of serious illness and keep them out of hospital with repeat occurrences – relieving the burden on the NHS.
Funding at grassroots level
The types of activities carried out by this group are replicated by hundreds of small groups across the country, funded by Community Foundations. They are grassroots groups which are often overlooked by the council – Community Foundations are who they turn to.
